CHORD SHAPES FOR STRUM VERSION

Welcome to this Eastside Guitar Tutorial by Benny Blanco Halsey & Khalid! I’ve had a lot of requests for this and it’s a very simple song to play with one riff repeated throughout the entire song. In the vid i’ll also teach you an easy strum version of playing the song. The 2 versions I’ll teach in this video are:

1. Studio Version – No Capo
2. Easy Strum Version – Capo on 2nd Fret

Em7 D G
Cadd9 Cadd9 D

[Verse 1]
Em7 D G
When I was young, I fell in love
   Cadd9 D
We used to hold hands, man, that was enough (yeah)
Em7 D G
Then we grew up, started to touch
Cadd9 D
Used to kiss underneath the light on the back of the bus (yeah)
Em7 D G
Oh no, your daddy didn't like me much
       Cadd9 D
And he didn't believe me when I said you were the one
  Em7 D G Cadd9
Oh, every day she found a way out of the window to sneak out late

[Chorus]
                                Em7
She used to meet me on the Eastside
        D G Cadd9
In the city where the sun don't set
           D Em7
And every day you know that we ride
                   D G Cadd9
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
               D Em7 D
Baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
G Cadd9
We can go anywhere we want
       D Em7 D
Drive down to the coast, jump in the seat
G Cadd9
Just take my hand and come with me

[Post-Chorus]
Em7 D G
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Cadd9 D
Take your whole life then you put a line through it
Em7 D G
My love is yours if you're willing to take it
Cadd9 D
Give me your heart 'cause I ain't gonna break it
Em7 D G
So come away, starting today
Cadd9 D
Start a new life, together in a different place
             Em7 D G
We know that love is how these ideas came to be
          Cadd9 D
So baby, run away with me

[Verse 2]
Em7 D G Cadd9
Seventeen and we got a dream to have a family
                            D
A house and everything in between
           Em7 D G
And then, oh, suddenly we turned twenty-three
           Cadd9 D
Now we got pressure for taking our life more seriously
            Em7 D G
We got our dead-end jobs and got bills to pay
Cadd9 D
Have old friends and know our enemies
         Em7 D G
Now I-, I'm thinking back to when I was young
            Cadd9
Back to the day when I was falling in love

[Chorus]
                                Em7
He used to meet me on the Eastside
        D G Cadd9
In the city where the sun don't set
           D Em7
And every day you know that we ride
                   D G Cadd9
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
               D Em7 D
Baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
G Cadd9
We can go anywhere we want
       D Em7 D
Drive down to the coast, jump in the seat
G Cadd9
Just take my hand and come with me
