Welcome to Throwback Thursday’s where I teach you a classic hit from the last 4-5 decades! This week we have an Ironic Guitar Tutorial from Alanis Morissette. What a hit from the 90’s! Best thing about this song are the excellent lyrics but it also has some great sounding guitar work. This song is fairly easy to learn and has some fairly basic strumming patterns so it’s great for beginners.

Enjoy! Like this #ironic video by #alanismorissette and subscribe to the channel for more videos in the future!

An old man turned ninety-eight

He won the lottery and died the next day
       D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
It´s a black fly in your Chardonnay
       D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7

Isn´t it ironic ... don´t you think

It´s a free ride when you´ve already paid

It´s the good advice that you just didn´t take

    D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
              D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
              D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
           D#/F Gsus2
And as the plane crashed down he thought
       D#/F Em7
" Well isn´t this nice ... "
             D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
And isn´t it ironic ... don´t you think

It´s the good advice that you just didn´t take
    F C D*
Who would´ve thought ... it figures

[Bridge]

      Cmaj7 D6add11
Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
                            Cmaj7 D6add11
When you think everything´s okay and everything´s going right
     Cmaj7 D6add11
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
                                       Cmaj7
You think everything´s gone wrong and everything blows up
        Riff
In your face

[Verse]

  D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
A traffic jam when you´re already late
     D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
          D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
It´s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
                 D#/F Gsus2
It´s meeting the man of my dreams
                     D#/F Em7
And then meeting his beautiful wife
             D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
And isn´t it ironic ... don´t you think
         D#/F Gsus2 D#/F Em7
A little too ironic ... and yeah I really do think ...

[Chorus]

         D G D Em
It´s like rain on your wedding day
            D G D Em
It´s a free ride when you´ve already paid
              D G D Em
It´s the good advice that you just didn´t take
    F C D*
Who would´ve thought ... it figures
